Scholarships

The Waltham Family School Scholarship Fund was established in 2021 to honor the founder of the Waltham Family School, Britta McNemar. It is managed by the Friends of the Waltham Family School.

The scholarship fund supports Waltham Family School parents, alumni, and families of the program to continue their educational journey, whether in college or vocational training.

 

Eligibility

All family members of a family who participated in the Waltham Family School program, and currently reside in Massachusetts, are eligible to apply. Past Scholarship recipients can also reapply.

 

Kinds of Scholarship Support 

Educational activities that benefit the applicant’s continued learning. This includes:

• Tuition payments for accredited institutions

• Books, technology, and supplies required for learning

• Other miscellaneous educational expenses such as transportation, food, or healthcare

 

Application Deadline(s)

Applications received by April 1 will be given preference. Scholarship awards for high school and college students will be announced in June. Parental scholarships are awarded throughout the year. Parental scholarships will be decided within six weeks of receiving the application.

The Waltham Family School Scholarship Fund will award up to $2,500 per scholarship recipient. It will usually be awarded to a Waltham Family School parent and a Waltham Family School parent’s child per calendar year. The total amount of scholarship dollars available to award each year will be determined annually by the Friends of the Waltham Family School Board through a recommendation of the Investment Committee.

Recipient Selection

Friends of the Waltham Family School will establish a panel to select the recipients of the Waltham Family School Scholarship. The selection panel will consist of 3-5 people, which could include Friends of Waltham Family School board members, the Waltham Family School Program coordinator, Friends of the Waltham Family School Advisory Council members, and a Waltham Family School teacher.
